We’re seeking a passionate, detail-oriented, and hardworking person to be our next Associate Financial Planner. Ideally, you are seasoned and already comfortable in this role.
This role serves as a key support advisor on both new and existing client relationships—anticipating needs, coordinating follow-up, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. Over time, the position can evolve into a Lead Planner role, though there’s also room to continue growing as an experienced Associate if that’s where you thrive.
The ideal candidate must have an upbeat mentality and be capable of managing the daily needs of a growing financial planning practice.? Your ability to take ownership of your work and proactively add value will make you an ideal candidate for the position. We utilize a lot of technology, so it’s best if you enjoy the efficiencies it brings!
We have two office locations, one on the outskirts of Washington, DC in Tysons Corner, VA, and the other in the mountains of southwest Virginia in Blacksburg. We also work remotely.
Our preference is for this position to be in person in our Blacksburg, VA office, but we’re open to considering a remote arrangement for the right candidate. Preference will be given to those located in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Pennsylvania, where we already have team members. This position will be expected to travel to Blacksburg at least quarterly or as needed to meet with clients and connect in person.
As an Associate Financial Planner, you will support Lead Advisors in serving clients. This role requires a self-motivated individual who can manage multiple initiatives while remaining sensitive to deadlines. Below are a few examples of the work you’ll perform on a day-to-day basis:
Attend client meetings and take notes. If desired, participate with an increasing role over time.
Prepare agendas and reports for client meetings.
Communicate with clients via email, phone, and in meetings.
Enter data, create and update plans in RightCapital.
Support the data-gathering process.
Run tax projections in Holistiplan. Be able to discover tax planning opportunities on your own such as Roth conversions, bunching deductions, paystub adjustments, etc.
Assist with preparation and analysis for every financial planning topic (cash flow, insurance, investments, retirement, education, estate, and tax planning).
As desired, review client investment portfolios.
Complete other miscellaneous financial planning projects and research.
Evaluate ways to improve and streamline client interaction and financial plan delivery.
Work within our software package (WealthBox, Tamarac, Microsoft Office Suite, Holistiplan, and RightCapital).
Change lightbulbs, figuratively speaking! We’re a small company so there are times we all pitch in to do everything!
Have at least 3 years of financial planning + client meeting experience
Be a CFP® professional, or have passed the exam
Organized and detail-oriented self-starter who works well with existing processes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple deadlines and workflows
Comfortable with receiving feedback and providing it to others in a kind, respectful way
Are a lifelong learner who’s never done growing and improving
