Summary/Objective
The Assistant Vice President for Endowment and Treasury Management is a key leadership position with responsibility for the University’s investment, cash, credit,, and debt management, and, merchant processing/PCI compliance. This position ensures adherence to best practices in endowment and treasury management, financial reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations. The incumbent also advises the CFO, Vice President, and Treasurer on all endowment, investment, cash, and debt, issues. The university’s structure, its academic culture, and its tradition in faculty governance require the AVP to lead through a combination of direct authority, business acumen, functional expertise, and influence.
Essential Functions
Oversee the day-to-day management of the university’s endowment, working capital investments, operating cash, and debt. Serve as top advisor to the CFO and other university leaders on all issues related to these areas. Serve as the primary liaison to the University’s Investment Committee and external investment advisor.
Develop and oversee the implementation of best practices in endowment and treasury management. Evaluate investment strategies and processes and make recommendations to achieve long-term goals. Ensure compliance regarding university, federal, and local requirements, guidelines, and laws.
Prepare reports and forecasts reflecting the state of university investments, and cash, and debt management, and advise university leadership accordingly. Work directly with external investment advisor to prepare endowment analysis and reporting for Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Supervise a team of professionals to ensure a high performing and engaged workforce. Seek opportunities to advance staff skill and knowledge, providing career development opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position reports directly to the CFO, Vice President, and Treasurer along with AVP of Planning and Project Development, AVP of Budget, AVP of Facilities Management, AVP of Compliance, Safety, and Enterprise Risk Management, Associate VP of Financial Operations, AVP of Auxiliary Services and Airlie, and Executive Assistant to the CFO VP & Treasurer.
This position oversees the Director of Treasury Operations.

Required Education and Experience
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, plus at least 10 years progressively responsible experience in finance, endowment or treasury management, or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
At least 5 years of experience are required at the leadership level. CFA, CTP, or CPA are desirable.
Position requires excellent business acumen as well as communication and influencing skills including the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of university stakeholders and constituents at all levels.
The position requires a demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining effective business relationships with external university partners, namely, investment, banking, and credit advisors in support of the mission and needs of the university.
Also required are in-depth knowledge of the federal and District of Columbia laws and regulations governing investments, treasury management, and debt.
The position also requires the ability to understand a rapidly changing academic environment and relationship between a central business function and the teaching and research mission of the university.
